How to port forward on Cisco ASA

By PC Tech Support at 2008-11-07 09:14:36
How to Port Forward On Cisco ASA 5500 Series A great follow-up security device to the PIX firewall by Cisco is the Cisco ASA 5500 series Adaptive Security Appliance. Configuring port fowarding is an everyday common task that's performed by many in the industry all through out the world and by large and small companies and individual users of security and routing appliances.

The example configuration posted and shown at the following technology blog, How Companies Do Support, shows both a GUI method through Cisco's ASDM (Adaptive Security Device Manager) and through the Cisco IOS command line. It shows port forwarding for the Microsoft's RDP protocol for remote access or remote support but the configuration is summarized in a few click and a few entries via command line IOS so it can be adapted to other protocols like http port forwarding on the Cisco ASA, https or FTP port forwarding on the Cisco ASA, etc. In fact, the IOS command line entries displayed can be copied and pasted right into another ASA.

The ASA model 5505 and the 5510 are similar in programing. In fact they are nearly exact. The 5510 will have more capabilities in them and one of the most usefull but pricey of these is the failover feature of the unit itself.
